Territory

Our structure is surrounded by territory rich in history, in which nature has been kept preserved in a particular manner.

The district of Serre, together with the district of Campagna, hosts an oasis of the WWF, the oasis of Persano.

Extended in the alluvial plain of the River Sele, the oasis is embraced by the Alburni and Picentini Mountains and is refuge to a wide variety of flora, plants and animals, amongst which are Willows, Black Adlers and Cannes, characterizing the humid forests consisting of Tifi, Narcissuses and Yellow Iris, habitats favoured by the otter, who enjoys wallowing in the waters of the oasis. The otter symbol of the oasis wasn’t chosen by chance.

Already in 700, the beauty of the place and the abundance of the animals caused the Borboni to elect the Persano as a “Royal Site”, meaning the territory was reserved for the King to go hunting. The enriched reserves from a "Royal House of Hunting" was built by Carlo of Bourbon in 1752 and then modified by the well-known architect Luigi Vanvitelli, who had already planned the building of the Palace of Caserta.

From the oasis, following the route of the River Sele, we approach to the National Park of the Cilento and the Valley of Diano, passing by the ancient Poseidonia, or rather Paestum, the ancient city of the Magna Greece whose ruins form one of the main archeological parks of Europe, also because of this Paestum is paramount for humanity and UNESCO.
